Due to work being carried out on certain television transmitters across Devon and Cornwall, if you’re using Freeview TV services, you may need to retune your set-top box to continue receiving channels.

What’s happening?

Certain TV transmitters used to broadcast digital viewing channels to parts of Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset are being updated as part of a major engineering programme. As a result of the transmitter upgrade, Freeview services currently using a particular set of frequencies will be moved to new ultra-high-frequency (UHF) channels.

The TV transmitters affected for Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset are:

Beacon Hill – covering Torbay and South Devon

Caradon Hill (Salcombe relay only) – covering the Salcombe area

Stockland Hill (some relays only) – covering parts of Devon and Dorset

For minimal disruption to viewing, the engineering work will take place from midnight on Wednesday 27th March and is scheduled to finish by 6.00am that day. Work on relays from Caradon Hill and Stockland Hill may continue until late afternoon.

How will it affect you?

If you watch TV using a Freeview set-top box through the transmitters listed above, you may need to retune to continue receiving certain channels or radio stations. You might also be affected if you use YouView, BT, EE, Plusnet, or TalkTalk services.

In most cases, you’ll be able to retune your set-top box yourself with no difficulty and receive a strong signal as you did before. But if you retune and some channels are missing, there’s a possibility your aerial will need upgrading from a grouped aerial to a wideband aerial to receive them.

What do I need to do?

Retune your set-top box as soon as you can after 6.00am on Wednesday 27th March (or later depending on your transmitter). If you’re not sure how to do this, call us on 01752 296 781 and we can talk you through the process.

If you’re not receiving all the channels you should be after you retune your set-top box, let us know and we’ll do what we can to get you back up and running. We can also give you more details and information on any aerial replacement that you might need.

But if you have any other questions or queries about the works being carried out, or if you’re worried about what to do with your set-top box, get in touch or call us on 01752 296 781 today.
