There’s definitely no shortage of TV channels for you to choose from these days. While you’re probably familiar with what Freeview, Freesat, and Sky or Virgin Media offer, there are now subscription streaming services to consider, opening up a whole new world of quality entertainment.

But while they’re easy to use and cheap to get – as well as being contract-free – what’s the difference between them and what equipment do you need to watch them? Here’s our guide to three of the best streaming services around with all the info you need.

Netflix | www.netflix.com

What is it? Netflix is the world’s largest online streaming subscription service of TV and films. You can watch as much or as little as you like for £5.99 a month, it’s ad-free, and there’s new content added every week.

What do I get? A huge range of content including acclaimed US and UK TV show boxsets and blockbuster films. You also get tons of award-winning ‘Netflix Original’ content like The Crown, Orange Is The New Black, and Stranger Things, as well as hard-hitting documentaries.

How do I get it? You can watch Netflix anywhere, anytime, and on as many devices as you like – all you need is an internet connection. Once you sign in, you can watch content immediately through your computer or laptop browser or any smart device with the Netflix app, including smart TV’s, smartphones, tablets, media players like Apple TV – even gaming consoles.

Amazon Prime Video | www.amazon.co.uk

What is it? One of Amazon’s ‘Prime’ membership services, Prime Video is its own TV and film streaming service. For £7.99 a month, all its ad-free content is available 24/7/365 with new content regularly added.

What do I get? Just like Netflix, you get a massive range of programming. Award-winning US and UK TV show boxsets, big box-office movies, and lots of ‘Prime Original’ content like The Grand Tour and American Gods.

How do I get it? Again, Prime content is available anywhere, anytime, and on any device with an internet connection. After signing in, you can stream content through any browser, as well as devices including smart TV’s, smartphones, and tablets. You can also stream content through Amazon’s own Fire tablets and phones, as well as Fire TVs & Fire TV HDMI sticks.

Now TV | www.nowtv.com

What is it? A streaming service for ad-free TV and films, offering individual passes so you can enjoy more of what you actually want to watch. Passes range from £3.99 to £7.99 a month covering everything from TV, movies, and sport.

What do I get? A lot – all the latest US and UK TV show boxsets with the Entertainment pass and over 1,000 movies with the Sky Cinema Pass. The Sky Sports Pass gives you all the major sports channels, and the Kids Pass provides all the episodes of everything they’ll need. You can also mix and match your choices too.

How do I get it? Just like the others, Now TV only requires an internet connection, so you can watch straight away on any browser, as well as streaming devices including smart TV’s, smartphones, and tablets. There’s also Now TV’s own smart box and smart HDMI sticks that plug right into your TV.
